Stylist and content creator Marianne Smyth (most likely better known to you as @smythsisters) has impeccable taste. Fact. And with nearly 400,000 followers on Instagram, I think it’s safe to say I’m not the only person who thinks this. Her easy-yet-elegant style, enviable wardrobe, beautiful interiors and consistently chic mirror selfies are what have people coming back to her account time and time again, looking for recommendations on what pieces are worth buying right now and how to style them. So, with a new season on the horizon, we thought who better than Marianne to give us a glimpse into her monthly wish list? Here she’ll share all the items that have caught her eye over the last few weeks, as well as share some exclusive looks she’s been wearing on rotation recently. A word of warning… you’re going to love everything! Over to you Marianne.
I can’t believe we are midway through August already! Where did our summer go?! My children start school imminently and so out comes the box of sensible lighter knitwear pieces for the early morning school runs (I say pretending I’m not excited for that). Don’t get me wrong, I love dressing for summer but I love transitional styling even more… August can be a very confusing month with high summer stock still in full flow, the tail ends of the mid-season sales and new-in autumn/winter pieces starting to take front & centre stage.
That being said, I get really, like really, excited about shopping this time of year. August and September are my favourite months for dressing; All of the lighter layers that allow you to dress a touch more playfully and of course that particular sweet spot moment of the knitwear and sandals combination.
This upcoming season it’s all about the silhouette of the denim for me, think strong sculptural shapes elevating your everyday jeans and tee look, which is my ultimate favourite. Before purchasing at this time of year I like to ask myself what way can I style this now and again in autumn/winter. I don’t really want to be splashing out on those high-summer pieces now, so it’s important to consider my current wardrobe and work out how many looks I can make with this particular piece. That way, I know what’s really worth investing in for the season ahead.
So, let’s cut to the chase and let you take a peek at my wish list that includes some of the pieces I have already taken the plunge on. I have a mix of items you can wear now and again when it gets slightly cooler. I hope you get lots of inspiration for the season ahead… I know I did!

CDLP
Stretch-Jersey T-Shirt
It’s no secret I’m a basics girl through & through. I love this long sleeve paired with a barrel leg jean & loafers. That butter yellow colour has been my go-to this year.
SENSI STUDIO
Canasta Straw Tote
That Structured raffia tote. Kept all my children’s things on holiday & looked chic whilst doing so. Also have the larger black tote & it was great for the beach & my airport carry on.
Pixie Market
Navy Corduroy Country Jacket-Preorder
Field jackets are everywhere but this particular jacket caught my eye. Wear now with cut off Denim shorts, your favourite white boxy T-shirt, an oversized shoulder bag & your favourite pumps and when it gets a little cooler swap out the shorts for your jeans.
MOTHER
The Full Pipe Skimp High-Rise Barrel-Leg Jeans
Speaking of barrel leg, I bought these Mother denim jeans just before my holiday. Simple, and so comfortable as the denim is very relaxed and soft. This shape of jean elevates the simplest of tops. I love green & I think we will be seeing a lot more of this tone coming into autumn.
massimo dutti
Split suede leather jacket with pockets
I picked up a suede jacket a few months back and have been wearing it over my summer looks religiously.
