The 2024 Met Gala gown code, “The Garden of Time,” was inspired by J.G. Ballards short story of the very same name and triggered a myriad of botanical and– attempt I say– storybook appearances. I enjoy how it provides some drama to the look and has a retro feel. Thats definitely my preferred trend.HK: So if you had received a coveted invitation to styles greatest night, which instructions would you have taken your appearance? And how would you have actually sourced the pieces to put your clothing together?BS: I liked, of course, the archival looks. I like the idea of bringing a vintage piece– or a piece, in basic– back to life.KC: I would do an appearance that includes some drama: a headpiece, a great declaration piece of jewelry.

The 2024 Met Gala gown code, “The Garden of Time,” was influenced by J.G. Ballards narrative of the very same name and prompted a myriad of botanical and– dare I state– storybook looks. There was no scarcity of whimsical, showstopping ensembles celebrating the Costume Institutes newest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” On the most recent episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr, Who What Wear Editor in Chief Kat Collings and Shopping Director Bobby Schuessler sat down to discuss their favorite fashion minutes of the night and the pieces that inspired them. For excerpts from their conversation, scroll below.Hillary Kerr: Lets talk about a few of the biggest design patterns we saw at the Met Gala this year. What were some of your preferred looks in each category? Kat Collings: I couldnt stop taking a look at all the gloves. There were a couple of versions. Some appeared like satin. Others were lace or mesh, which I believe is an easy entry point to the trend if youre a little uncertain. But I love how it offers some drama to the look and has a retro feel. I observed a great deal of the women were wearing a huge mixed drink ring or bracelets on top of the gloves. Thats constantly a fun way to highlight the precious jewelry in an unanticipated way.Bobby Schuessler: I believe for me, it was sheer for sure. We saw it a lot on the carpet– complete sheer, large accents, complete naked gown, sheer accents on a skirt. Whichs something we like this season– a sheer minute on a sleeve or a skirt. Thats definitely my preferred trend.HK: So if you had gotten a desirable invite to fashions most significant night, which direction would you have taken your look? And how would you have actually sourced the pieces to put your outfit together?BS: I enjoyed, naturally, the archival looks. So I d probably go in that instructions, possibly with a gorgeous vintage piece. I seem like I would do a cool, vintage Valentino floral fit situation. And I constantly hunt eBay to source wonderful designer products, specifically classic designer products. I enjoy the concept of bringing a classic piece– or a piece, in general– back to life.KC: I would do an appearance that adds some drama: a headpiece, a fantastic declaration piece of fashion jewelry. Naturally, its about the dress, but its simply as much about the devices. And I feel like more than ever, as youve pointed out, Bobby, celeb stylists are pulling these archival appearances. And its nearly anticipated that theres going to be this cool storytelling moment.Shop Pieces Inspired by the 2024 Met Gala
